One game. A promise. A second chance at life.

Chasey
All I knew was I was most likely going to die. Kidnapped and trapped in the boot of a car, I had no idea what would come next.

Then he came to my rescue. Tall, dark, and broody, he’s not supposed to be my savior. Or at least, that’s what he keeps telling me. Scorch Reed can’t help me survive the mess I’m in. He isn’t the man I should turn to.

But I know things about the former marine that I’m not sure he knows. I made a promise when my brother came home in a box to help this battered and broken husk of a man. He saved me, now it’s my turn.

Scorch
Pretending to be something I’m not is all that I’m good for. Rescuing Chasey was a part of the fantasy game The Vice Agency was paid for. Only we’re playing outside the rules, and she needs a man who can stand up for her.

I can’t be the hero she needs. I’m a dead man living on borrowed time. But the deeper we go into the fantasy the harder it is to keep who I am and who she thinks I am separate. Especially when she might be the only thing to make me want to live again.

In future, whenever I might feel sad about having boring or disappointing friends, I can remind myself that at least I don't have two life-long best friends who:
A. When I ask "can't I do what _I_ want to do on my birthday?" my female friend answers "no" and drags me to a night club, to ignore how uncomfortable I am with grope-y guy friend, and abandoning me completely to get her drunk hookup organized and started. What a great birthday!
B. Assault me repeatedly when he's drunk (the male friend)--not just groping, but bruising me.
C. Together hire a fantasy-enactment firm to for-real abduct me, gag me, transport me in a car trunk then point a gun at me.
D. Decide that giving me a roofie just prior to the abduction will make it more fun for me (the male friend).
I'd rather go the rest of my life without friends than have friend like these. Oh, and I'm not even an assault survivor like the heroine of the book, who is still haunted by an abusive relationship (or more than one?) that led to her being hospitalized with broken bones etc.. I'm sure her friends mean well when they decide her violent kidnapping is sure to snap her out of her funk!!

Also, any time I feel like I have a horrible job, I can at least celebrate that:
A. I don't work for a company so stupid that their policy is to let clients leave and return with legal release forms "signed" by the "friend" to be kidnapped.
B. When I am at the former government safe house my company now owns, complete with bulletproof glass, my stupid boss has not replaced the door with something a group of thugs is going to be able to break through in moments. (Because I think a real safe house, if it's going to have the special glass, is also going to have fairly bomb-proof doors??????)

All in all, perhaps this wasn't a complete waste of my time and seething emotions, since I now have a new appreciation for my current friends and my job. Thanks, I guess!

Playing Hero A Vice Agency Novel The Vice Agency Book 1 edition by Misti Murphy T Lund Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Loved this book!
I was given an arc to review.
Have enjoyed each one of Misti's books so far
I would never forgive my friends. Not going to give away the story. A Veteran who has problems. A girl hiding from life.
After her brother is killed in Afghanistan Casey hides at home reading romance stories. But then her friends buy her a fantasy. But she does not know it is all fake. And to make matters worse they get hunted down by mysterious killers.
There is a big surprise twist in the story.
Totally unrealistic in some parts but very entertaining.
urgggg, this story made me so mad, but in a good way. I can't tell you what it is about (but think The Sixth Sense movie). The action was nonstop, the main characters awesome, and the ending both expected and unexpected. Want to pull your hair, yell a little, yet become enthralled, get reading. Just make sure you have time enough to finish in one sitting! Seriously, can you tell I liked this book)
received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I will try to not post any spoilers but there is always the chance something may slip out.

I have to say that this is a new author for me, who absolutely blew this book out of the water! I was so engrossed with the reading I had to finish it. It has not just twists .. but super twists. It will keep you hoping with real life likeness of action.

The writer gives a refreshing outlook on an action book with a twist of romance. That twist of romance is let me tell you super hot! Nova HOT!!
This book was not anything I expected and I am happy I read it! On her birthday Chasey is drugged and kidnapped. She is saved by Scorch, a very hot guy. She does not know it is all part of a fantasy simulation game, paid for by her friends. Scorch suspects Chasey is not informed about the game and decides to debrief her and bring her home. But they are being followed by some very persistant thugs and soon they are on the run.

There were some issues I had with the story, like the fact Scorch slept with women as part of the game if they paid for it. That would normally put me off a story, but I could accept it here. I liked both the H/h and enjoyed the ride. This is not a very long story, but complete and with a lovely HEA.

I wish there was some sort of sequel, I intend to find out. This is my first book from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing over the top violent and some steamy scenes completed the package.
